Tuesday's Breeze
We got on the track immediately post break sans outrider again. At the Woodlands the outrider reports to the clocker.
So..... we waited.....and of course the usual mob of horses hits the track with us as Mr. Outrider finally arrives. With 30 horses and a strong wind, little room for niceties here, and so on spur of the moment we decided to report 3f and gallop right on around from the 3/16th against a very strong head wind.
We'd decided to keep breezing 2f past the wire for 5f altogether, but Nob had to improvise on the fly as the horse was into :15s by the time he'd gone two furlongs.
Nob reported that the horse was doing :14s by the 5f and then that there was very little speed up into the breeze. Nob said the breeze was strong and steady but very slow, and that horse simply fails to increase speed in response to the stick.
Nob or the horse? We'll find out Friday for I've engaged jockey Rene Corbit for Friday's breeze. The final time for Wind on Equibase was :41.8, 13/13, good grief. In fairness to the horse, by the time he hit the 3f he'd already done 5f of very fast galloping, and then came around into an extremely strong headwind that might have disappeared for some of the other breezers.
Nevertheless, the time is discouraging, again. Since Ms. Corbit looks as if she's 105lbs. soaking wet, we should in the next week know if we have a horse that's even raceable. I'm thinking so, but, we'll see. Friday I'll take some photos, and maybe I can even figure out how to post the camcorder.
The blog is about to seguay into my next section dealing with how training of the conventional sort creates injuries. Big stuff that'll take a while.
Training:
Wind:
9/28/unreported 5f breeze.
9/29 rest
9/30 1.6 mile gallop at the farm in :15s.
10/1 riderless easy about 1 mile
10/2/07 5f total at what's reported at :14s, though I suspect the clocking is a little off.
Note--horse is breezing every 4 days due to the Thursday dark day problem. So, we had to take Monday or Thurs. off, and it was decided to take the extra off day Monday. Friday will be the 2nd breeze in 3 days.
Art: 10/1/07 85% riderless speed bursts of about 4f with oldsters. Did probably 4 of them with extra galloping thrown in.
