Pyro

I'd previously misread the sheet and failed to see the 4/21 breeze in the fog in company. On reading correctly:

VERY DECENTJOBS (continued):

6: PYRO

works/races for the year: #1
works/races since 3/15: tied for #2 at 7. Only Colonel John did 8.
Furlongs: 2d just behind Smooth Air
Spacing: 7 days apart with 9 days post race. Very decent, but, this horse failed to run in the Blue Grass and they needed to do something to restore fitness before 4/21/ Failed. (Injury, perhaps?)
Quality of work 10 days out: I like the breeze 4/21 in company, but, think you need to do more than 4f in :12.5 with no gallop out 5 days before the Derby. I'd call this average and believe it compromises the horse from being a prime contender.

Pyro analysis: I think they deliberately held Pyro back on the Blue Grass. I at no time saw the jock getting seriously after the horse. This was a mistake in terms of developing fitness. But, we have to consider that Pyro has done more breezes, though many were powder puffs than any other horse in this field. I'd have to give Asmussen the benefit of the doubt and call this the 5th best job overall, somewhere between Dennis of Cork and Eight Belles.

7. Z FORTUNE:

Works/races for the year : 5th
Works/races since 3/15: 7, tied for 2d.
Furlongs: 4th
Spacing: 9-10 days post race, otherwise every 7 days. Very decent.
Quality of work 10 days out: Last 2 works pre derby :50 and :52. What's the deal. This horse just along for the ride.
