Hey RR-

Big post coming with my Derby selections, thanks for this data - which I will steal.
One thing I will add is that dirt races/works seem to take quite a bit more effort than synthetic.
Good for improved fitness, but can be bad for soundness.
For instance all of Chocolate Candy's races and works, other than this week, have been on artificial surfaces.

Baffert says "I can't make him (Pioneer of the Nile) like the dirt, he either will or he won't."

C'mon man, trying to tell us that practice over a surface won't improve his action or stride? Training might not overcome biomechanical limitations, but it can certainly improve surface performance. Worth a try when millions are on the table, in my opinion...
