Latest

Pressed for time today. I'll just post a bit on our situation of the moment. Just looked at the latest Accuweather Satellite Map concerning our planned trip to Eureka tomorrow. Is this possible? Suddenly massive storms appear to be coalescing just to the west. Complete change in the forecast. This has got to be a mistake!

We're planning to breeze the two twelve year olds tomorrow around 2f+ after the very nice farm breezes last night which were 3 x 2f each horse with Nob holding on for dear life around a too tight turn we just cut out in the deep grass. Nob on one horse rounding that turn with all the clippings still there had the sun direct in his eye floating around there at full speed totally blind. What can you do?

This is the second breeze of the year so I asked Nob how they did--they last raced in 2003--Nob said he was impressed but maybe when he started asking they came up a bit short. Is this because they've been galloping only 30+ days or because they're too old. We'll see.

I put Nob on the scale. 166 lbs. Hardly Larry Jones but even worse than I thought. He said he's working on it. Needs to be down to 150 lbs soon.

As to the little fellow, jeez. In the pre-workout trot he's now limping badly wtf. Then he start's galloping and playing on it. Horses with abscess never voluntarily gallop, so again wtf. Then I noticed--unbelievably--the shoe we spent an hour putting on the night before had come off. Tacking on the shoe took a lot of time Monday because the left side of the horn after successive shoe removals due to mud, loss of shoe, abscess, reshoeing was like swiss cheese. We knew it might fail to hold, but, it never lasted even 24 hours. Luckily I'm supplied with equilox, and we'll do an equilox job and reshoeing tonight. Art's feet have been a continuing problem, perplexing since I deliberately wanted a horse with four black hoofs, which he's got.

The wind may be a problem tomorrow. 45 mph gusts forcast. The Missouri River on the way to work today "rolling breakers-foam bespewed". If the rain holds off, I'll make a decision in the morning whether we'll head out tomorrow or Friday. Back to warm up next post.
