More Good Meteorology

We aim to look at things positively around here.  And so the late February 8 inches of Thurs. snow is followed by a 10 inch blizzard tomorrow we see this as spring just around the corner--the RR stable, as always, rolling with the punches. + this area really needed this precip.  Venturing to guess the 18 inches of snow is a tree saver for the Kansas City, Mo. area.

The plan is to have the horses on the trailer to Celestial Acres in Oklahoma on April 1--5f track 15 minutes from Remington Park where we can get this thing started with #17.  #148 waits to June.  Given the weather imposed inactivity of the stable, maybe will allow a peek at this year's Derby.  Good grief--Plecher's horse gets run down in the Fountain of Youth.  Who'd have thought.  Did notice that Bill Pressey is converted recent admirer of Plecher's.  Bears watching as it goes for reason of myself--on the other hand--being more the critic, putting this mildly.

Good Meteorology

Positive spin on the new weather forecast.  Only six inches of snow today, according to Accuweather Meteorologist Bernie Raynor who seems distressed that KC gets ONLY six inches instead of twelve. See clip below if its still  up.  As world of meteorology goes, Raynor seems to know his stuff and worth clicking on clip and the vid to listen to an able member of that profession:

More distressing--and this is being positive--change in next two weeks forecast from temps in 50s to temps in 30s with constant of precipitation. With at least 6 inches of snow on ground without prospect of melt any time soon, there goes getting anything accomplished with #17 in March.

We knew of course-- too much recent experience -- unable to train horses in KCMO anymore.  You get revved up to get something done, in comes the next weather event.  And so, we're now actively plotting to get horses to weather friendly race track asap.  Unknown if we can pull this off  practically or financially.  May depend on health of #148 with his still swollen hock--things could be looking better.  Will see. Training--we passed yesterday--combo of Nob's problematic inner thigh still barking and 21 degree temps at game time.

Wed. Misc.

The new reins arrive from Stenmans.  The new condition, and in particular the rubberized portion were hands grip reins gives rider so much more control than same reins with rubber worn out. New reins give tight steering vs. loose steering. Mr. Nob looking forward to first ride with them, though may postpone today--Nob reporting  injury to inner left thigh muscle fearing a tear with too much pressure..  Will see.

#17 doing riderless work + trotting under tack two of last three days. Brutal wind/weather conditions causes cancel on Mon. Yet to gallop horse, though doing well.  A little short of trustworthy just yet.  Latest jock cam vids show a lot of clouds and occasionally the top of the horse's ears.  I suddenly recall the positioning of the jock cam with Rolling Rodney.  Should have decent vids soon.

#148--bandage off.  good grief.  There is a fairly large hole through the joint where the bone fragment was removed.  Doc says it will heal and horse raceable.  What I see, career in doubt.  Would be a shame for this nice animal.  June 1 would be scheduled resumption of training.

Mon. Misc.

#17 is on the verge of taking a few gallop steps.  Expect that to happen today.  Of course, and as always, the weather is about to cave in on us.  2 weeks of wet coming.  Weather stops horses and armies.  Finally got the horses in the picture in one of the riderless efforts, though the below are only the warm ups:

Sat. Misc.

Another unsuccessful jock cam attempt.  Mr. Nob has a little trouble mounting, and hence the camera flutter., and, yes, new reins on the way.

Mon. Misc.

10 vids of Sat. training. The Kodak Playful Cam so small it's difficult to keep it pointed at a moving target.  Got more grass in the vids than training, and none was blogworthy.   #148 this morn below.  Back in town.

Light Bulb On

#17 on Wed. eve put in his first clean open trot.  Rain today prevents immediate reinforcement although hopefully we're now on the way with this horse.  Post some vids next week when I have more time. #148 still racking up bills at Vet Hospital.

Training

Mon. Off
Tues:  walk-trot for 10 min. + nice riderless gallop for 8-9 f intermittent.  Missing our fast one in these riderless gallops.  Tack work with #17 (mistake calling him #7. Hip 17) has been slow progress.  Never had this much trouble getting youngster into nice trot.  Combo trouble of sporadic galloping, rider getting his sea legs again, and topography.  The little hill inclines at our place get a lot steeper according to Mr. Nob trying to get a fidgety uncertain protesting youngster trotting up hill.  Hopefully our work with the horse will start to get consistent and believe we'll then make good progress.#148 knee laceration blew up again at Vet Hospital.  They're keeping him for now to figure what's going on there.

Sun. Misc.

Back in deep freeze in KC last week.  Down to 5 degrees F.  Recommenced training with our one trainee on Sat.  The horse walked 10 min under tack it being too wet to trot for fear of damage to hay field.  Sun:  15 min walk-trot +  nice riderless run.  Nothing to write home about though  decent 7-8f run. #148 at Vet Hospital toTues. or Wed.
